The upgrading and modernisation of the Maitengwe Border Post (Zimbabwe-Botswana border) is set to expedite the movement and clearance of tourists between the countries.
“The development of a border post is welcome as it is going to aid the free movement of tourists between Zimbabwe and Botswana as well as to other parts of Africa,” said Clement Mukwasi, PR Executive of Shearwater, an adventure company in Victoria Falls. “This development is going to culminate in an increase in the number of people who are going to travel between the two countries,” Mukwasi added that the areas on both sides of the border post were pristine and well known for wildlife.
Zimbabwe’s Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister, Joel Biggie Matiza, said the upgrading of the Maitengwe Border Post and its road network, would decongest Plumtree Border Post, 92km away. “This border expansion is part of the national programme of expanding and modernising all border posts.”
