Robyn Brookes is a Bulawayo-based trained Vinyasa, Meditation and Hatha Yoga teacher, offering lessons and classes to people of all levels – beginner to expert – and beginners can take comfort in the fact that they will be integrated into classes comfortably. Private classes are also available should you prefer a one-on-one session.
Gentle, basic yoga classes with no flow between poses. Expect a slower-paced stretching-focused class with some basic pranayama breathing exercises, with relaxation and/or meditation at the beginning or end of each class. Hatha classes are a good place to work on your alignment, learn relaxation techniques, and become comfortable with doing yoga while building strength and flexibility.
Commonly referred to as flow yoga. A type of yoga that links movement and breath to attain balance in the mind and body. From the Sanskrit “to place in a special way,” vinyasa aligns a deliberate sequence of poses with the breath to achieve a continuous flow. Vinyasa classes offer a variety of postures and no two classes are ever alike.
Is the centering of your breath and body – aligning the physical and mental by practicing stillness or gentle movement for extended periods of time. It’s about slowing down and opening the body through passive stretching. If you take a restorative class, you may hardly move at all, doing just a few postures in the course of an hour. During these long holds, your muscles relax deeply. It’s a completely different feeling from other types of yoga classes since props are used to support your body instead of your muscles.
Having completed a teachers training workshop with the lovely J’anaki Ra from Yogamama, Johannesburg, South Africa. I welcome preggy mums in my classes and offer prenatal yoga lessons. Pregnancy yoga helps calm mum down, prepares her for labour, gives time for self-care and nurturing not only for mum but for baby as well. This yoga will deepen the connection between mother and child. These classes will bring about community and sisterhood as other mums can connect and share their journey during this precious time.
Awareness Warriors Yoga and mindfulness techniques for teenies, tweenies & teens, to assist children in paying attention to the present moment and the intentional nurturing of positive states of mind such as empathy and awareness.
