Accommodation

Nyamoumba offers 4 guest chalets, each with a spectacular view of the Zambezi River. Every chalet has a comfortable king-sized bed that can be converted into two twin beds by request and if travelling with children, an extra bed can be added to the room. Made up in crisp cotton sheets and beautiful linens, beds have overhead fans to keep the rooms cool. King-size mosquito nets are let down at turndown with icy cold filtered water bedside.

Bathrooms feature everything you could ask for, including high-pressure solar geysers with brass shower sets, his and her basin and flush toilets. A generous range of amenities includes soaps, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, loofahs, lip balm, sunscreen and mosquito repellent along with fluffy white towels.

Private verandahs offer the perfect spot to watch the river go by or to read that book you’ve been meaning to catch up on.

Camp Activities

Being based on the Zambezi River means incredible bird viewing, with boat trips right up into the Kariba Gorge itself. The rare Pel’s fishing owl is a regular visitor and seasonal avian visitors make each trip unique. We offer bird and game viewing by boat and on the neighbouring islands. Life jackets are provided for all water-based activities.

We will be offering game drives on the mainland and walking safaris by request shortly. Our professional guides are as at home on the water as on the land, so every trip is a discovery, with our seasoned boat captains in the know of all the best spots on the river.

Catch and release fishing of all species is another exciting activity, with this stretch of river home to the highly sought-after Tiger Fish. A fierce fighter, this game fish offers excellent sport and toothy trophy shots when landed. Our specially equipped boats have USB charging points so you will never miss recording your catch or wildlife sighting. Private booking of boats and vehicles can be arranged by prior request at an additional charge.

Q Location

Situated at the very end of the Kariba Gorge as it opens into wide river flood plains, just 27km down from the iconic dam wall, Nyamoumba River Lodge boasts the best of both worlds - Wildlife Safaris and Birding Safaris all on the beautiful Zambezi River. Our bush highway is the river itself, giving guests unique opportunities for riverine game and bird viewing and exciting fishing. The lodge is positioned opposite a beautiful island that is frequented by families of elephants and other islands are close by, offering the perfect spots for beach lunches and sundowners.

Q About the camp

Our brick-built camp features a large welcoming main entertainment area decorated in a contemporary African style, that includes a dining area, bar and lounge area and an interactive kitchen, where our chefs create delicious meals whilst you watch. Our large fire-pit area makes the perfect communal gathering spot for fishing stories (it really was that big!) and evening drinks. The pool offers a welcome cool-off after a day on the river or the perfect lazing spot whilst watching the river go by. The camp has 24-hour electricity available from our on-site eco solar farm. The welcoming staff are always available to help with any request. Fresh, hot tea, coffee and crunchy freshly baked biscuits are always on hand.

Q Children on Safari

With Julian and Ashley, the real-life bush parents of three, children are most welcome in camp and should be under the supervision of their parents or a guardian at all times. No matter their age, your guide will make sure that children enjoy their experience as much as adults do.

Please note when booking that in the rooms, all children under the age of 14 should be accompanied by one parent or legal guardian.

Q Transers

The Mutondo team will arrange all transfers into and out of camp from your previous destination and to your next. By road and by air, we will make your journey into camp as comfortable as possible.

By road, on commercial roads, private buses will be used, with our especially equipped 4x4 game drive vehicles taking over for the dirt road park sections.

Exciting scenic boat transfers are a unique feature, with pick-ups offered in our especially equipped boats from the canoe launch site below Kariba Dam Wall or from Chirundu town.

For those choosing to fly by private small plane charter, RIFA airstrip and Chirundu airstrip are accessible from camp by dirt park road networks.

Self Drive directions are available on request, but please note you will need an appropriate vehicle.
