Fastjet Mozambique will suspend domestic flight operations in Mozambique, effective midnight October 26.
All flights, including codeshare arrangements with LAM Mozambique Airlines to Maputo, Tete, Beira and Quelimane, will be suspended until further notice.
Customers holding bookings on flights on or after October 27 will be entitled to a full refund.
A Fastjet spokesperson said: “The decision to suspend services was only taken after considerable review, particularly given Fastjet’s significant commitment to Mozambique over the past two years. But the ongoing oversupply of available seats by other carriers on all routes and the negative financial impact this is having on our business means that, regrettably, this is a decision we have had to take.”
However, Fastjet confirmed that: “We remain committed to returning to Mozambique when the overall demand for air travel in the country has increased sufficiently in comparison to the capacity supplied to enable long-term financial viability.”
The suspension of flights in Mozambique does not affect any of the operations of Fastjet Zimbabwe, which continues to operate services between Harare, Johannesburg, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.
